As part of its DFG project HipHop’s Fifth Element: Knowledge, Pedagogy, and Artist-Scholar-Collaboration , which is co-lead by Prof. Dr. Oliver Kautny (Universität zu Köln) and Prof. Dr. Justin Williams (University of Bristol), the Cologne Hip Hop Institute invited international researchers from Ireland, England, Scandinavia and Germany to work on the topic „Institutionalization of HipHop in Music Education“ for two days. This workshop was at the same time the 5th meeting of the EHHS-Network, a project led by Dr. Sina Nitzsche (TU Dortmund).
15th September 2022: Lectures, Rap-Performance & Discussions
Prof. Dr. Johann Söderman (University of Gothenburg) gave a lecture on the Institutionalization of Hip Hop in Academia and Prof. Dr. Kristine Ringsager (University of Copenhagen) spoke on Critical Hip Hop Pedagogy and Moral Ambiguity. The Cologne MC and Producer Kurt Tallert aka Retrogott presented the song „Endlich eindeutig“ (2022), which he had composed for a seminar at the University of Cologne. Furthermore he formulated some theses on the De-institutionalization of the University through Hip Hop. And Dr. des. Chris Kattenbeck (Universität zu Köln) described – based on the results of his dissertation on the artistic agency of beatmakers – Challenges and Opportunities of Institutionalizing Beatmaking in Music Teacher Training.
